Ming Tombs

Ding Ling is the other tomb that is open to the tourist. It is the tomb of Emperor Wan Li, the 13th Ming Emperor. He succeed the throne at the age of 10. He ruled for 48 years and died in 1620.

Ding Ling is the only tomb that is excavated. The five-chamber Underground Palace is 27 meters below the ground. After a 160-step winding staircase, you can actually see the emperor's and the two empresses' coffins.
